Towards a European open platform on miniaturised robotics

Motivation and objective:
This workshop will be dedicated to build a European open platform on miniaturised robotics, providing access to high-level technologies, software and methods for both industry (especially SMEs) and academia. “platform” may as well be understood as a definition of a set of interfaces, both for hardware and software, in order to be able to combine all the different hardware components (actuators, sensors), and software tools (for sensor data processing, control, and automation) that are developed by academia and offered by SMEs on the market.
The platform will be multi-centric with specialisation on each member's expertise. Members of the platform can be companies or research laboratories.
Approach:
The workshop will consist of a series of targeted presentations of approximately 10 minutes on the expertise, methods, technologies, devices and equipments that the potential members could make available to the platform, as well as an outline of the access conditions (free/non free, with/without staff support, etc.)
Questions and answers will be exchanged during/at the end of each presentation. A longer final discussion will be organised to draw a sketch of the open platform.

How can participants contribute to and prepare for the workshop?
Participants will be asked to:
- express their needs and expectations from the open platform;
- describe their fields of expertise and available equipments (even unformally);
- give their opinion on the proposed equipments and expertise offered by the potential platform members;
- describe their ideas, how an open platform can support best to miniaturized robotics in order to make it useful and sustainable;
- contribute to skecthing the platform.
Planned follow-up:
After the workshop, the draft will serve in two directions: suggest a call text to the European Commission and, independently, to finalize the organisation of the open platform.
